Training Packages: Protection from Harm

Abuse and Neglect Prevention is a two-component set of learning materials on keeping individuals with disabilities safe. The first component teaches caregivers about abuse and neglect, enhancing their skills to prevent such harm. The supervisors’ component extends the training to include creating working environments that support both individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. Both sets of learning materials include a trainer’s outline, participant manual, and overhead transparencies.

Violence Intervention and Prevention was designed to help maintain a safe and therapeutic environment within New York State’s Addiction Treatment Centers, operated by the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. Training participants consider three primary factors that contribute to violence: environment, staff, and patients. The training package includes a participant manual, instructor manual, videotape, and annual refresher.

What is Abuse? How Do We Prevent It? is a facilitated videotape training package developed for the State of Tennessee’s Division of Mental Retardation Services. It seeks to train caregivers on recognizing situations that may become abusive and on developing strategies to keep individuals with disabilities safe from harm. The training package includes a participant manual, trainer’s guide, and videotape (produced with assistance from YAI National Institute for People with Disabilities.)
